Well there I was quite content with progressing my 28mm zulu war project when I happened to browse the internet and the new ACW range by Baccus caught my eye. Well that was that 2 miniutes later I was buying a couple of packs and reading as much about the period as I could find. This is a totally new period for me and a new scale. I settled for the Volley & Bayonet rules I wanted to wargame the larger battles of the war. I liked the idea of large bases showing masses of troops, just what 6mm was made for. anyway here are a couple of pics of those first packs. I haven't added the flags yet as I hope to pic some up at fiasco in leeds this very day.

Just a couple of pictures of the ongoing progress. All BTD apart from the two chaps with the ammo boxes which are Redoubt miniatures. Redoubt and BTD mix quite well so I will most likely use them to fill the gaps in the BTD range.

Painting a BTD 24th Foot

After a few requests for a painting tutorial I have put together this quick one. Hope it is of help to someone.
first of all I mount and undercoat the figure with Revell Black. For my Revell paints I use the new Acrylic paints that come in handy little square pots.

Paint the helmet and webbing with Revell Orche then wash with Vallejo Flat earth.

Highlight with Revell Orche + white and then a final highlight of white

Paint face and hands VJ Flat earth and highlight with GW Dwarf flesh, Final highlight of Dwarf flesh+white. The lips are painted with Dwarf flesh+VJ Vermillion.

Paint the coat with VJ Cavalry brown, highlight with VJ Vermillion and a final highlight with VJ scarlet.

Paint the cuffs with VJ Military green, highlight with VJ olive green. Lace painted white. buttons painted with GW Shining gold. Utility pouch highlight with grey.

Trousers highlighted GW Regal Blue. Rifle stock painted with VJ burnt Umber and highlighted with VJ Flat earth + VJ Cork brown. Metal painted GW chainmail. Well that about does it any questions just drop me a line. Happy painting.

update on 28mm zulu brits

Well the 28mm zulu war 24th foot are coming on nicely now, Black tree Designs really are a pleasure to paint. The figures come with hardly any flash or mold lines and the detail is outstanding. The Natal Carabineers figure is a converted British officer as Black tree do not as yet make the Carabineers. He was a pretty simple conversion just had to remove a bit of braiding and of course add a spike to his helmet. Next of course basing those figures!

more 1/1200 naval

Just a couple of pics from my now expanding 1/1200 naval models.

28mm zulu war

Having collected a large zulu war army in 6mm I thought it might be good to build a small force in 28mm that can be used for skirmishes and small battles. The figures from Black Tree Designs paint up very well even for an average painter like myself.

Periods and Scales

Well I like to get stuck into lots of different periods and scales but these are the ones i am currently working on.
  • 6mm Napoleonic. Adler miniatures
  • 6mm zulu war. Irregular miniatures
  • 10mm Late romans. Pendraken figures
  • 28mm zulu war. Black Tree Designs (wonderful figures to paint)
  • 1/1200 Napolenic Naval. Langton miniatures

Welcome

Welcome to my Blog, here I hope to post my general periods of interest in wargaming and any current projects I am working on. Please feel free to make comments or ask any questions on what you see.
